Stuart J Attic recently published a compilation of writings, drawings, and comics, boldly entitled "No One Cares about Yr S*** Town". The contents that follow the title page uphold the same degree of cynicism and vulgarity. Attic honestly and unapologetically states that the zine is "not designed to offend, but unafraid of doing so."
“We talk a mean game about what the scene needs ... this isn't propaganda for scene unity. This is just us telling you how we feel.”
In terms of the actual subject matter though, the contributors describe a side of life in Columbus that bears no resemblance of the more recent "Unexpected, Unforgettable" branding campaign. From personal stories to creative writing to historic tellings of the early punk scene in Columbus, it's more than evident that most of these guys have a bone to pick with the status quo.
Accompanying the zine is a playlist that is as provocative as its literary counterpart. If Casey Kasem plays your taste of music, then you are in for a shocker. Imagine a deranged lunatic shouting into a megaphone while an Atari game from hell plays through a stack of maxed-out amplifiers. Now combine that with drum n bass beats and over-driven guitar and you have an average track.
If this sounds like a negative review, it is not meant to be. In fact, both the zine and the playlist are creatively inspiring and bursting with emotion. You will find yourself re-examining your world view and at times, laughing out loud. In his zine, Attic offers a piece of real life: unfiltered, uncensored, and unrestrained - a commodity that seems to be constantly under attack by social conformity.
