Huh?
Here's the story of C-buz:
Columbus, Indiana is world renowned for its artistic integrity and its amazing architecture. In fact, National Geographic rated Columbus fourth in the nation for its architecture (right behind NYC, Chicago, and SF).
And yet, many young artists and musicians struggle with Columbus as a nurturing environment for their creativity. Most young professionals find themselves going to Bloomington, Indy, or Chicago for artistic inspiration. Columbus suffers from a "brain drain" of many kinds, in which talented, smart, and creative high school graduates leave and never come back. While those who have remained in Columbus often feel like failures for having not "made it" outside their home town.
In response to this predicament, C-buz was born with the goal of promoting and uniting the creative culture of Columbus. By featuring artists, musicians, and other creative thinkers and announcing local, mostly unpublicized events, C-buz hopes to inspire its community of online visitors and supporters.
FAQs
Q: Where did the name C-buz come from?
A: Columbus has acquired the nickname "Cbus" and C-buz is an alteration of that nickname with the added insinuation of buzz as in, activity and excitement. The dash was added because cbuz.com and cbuzz.com were already registered. Shoot!
Q: I know about an event, can you guys post it on C-buz for me?
A: Yes, but you can save us some time and energy and post it yourself on our Promote page! It's easy!
Q: I have a suggestion or criticism of C-buz. Where can I post that?
A: You can go to our Input page and submit a form that will email us directly. You can also write us at huh@c-buz.com. There are also comment forms at the bottom of each blog and feature story. You can post your thoughts there.
Q: I want to be featured on C-buz. How do I do that?
A: Features take time and preparation to assemble, typically around 4 hours. Since Columbus is full of so many talented people, usually time and circumstance will determine who we feature next. If you want to be featured, you can either email us at huh@c-buz.com or fill out a form on the Input page. We will definitely get in touch with you, but we can't guarantee you will be featured.
Q: How can I get involved with C-buz?
A: C-buz is always looking for dedicated volunteers. And, no, there are no paid positions with C-buz - we are all volunteers. Here are some of our biggest needs:
- Writer: Since features take the most time to put together, we desperately need talented writers to help us crank them out. This involves interviewing the featured person or group, either in person or by email, and then writing out either a full story or an intro with the written out interview.
- Gig Promoter: Help us to fill up our gig list. We need someone to go out and find gigs happening in or around Columbus and promote them.
- Photographer: Great photos help make great features. Lend us your talent behind the lens. Also, we need people taking pictures at events so we can post them on Flickr.
Q: Can I advertise on C-buz?
A: Right now, we are setting up with an ad network called Indie Click, and also eventually through Google Ads. There are certain limitations we have advertising locally due to the founder of C-buz's job situation. This matter is best discussed individually. Email us at huh@c-buz.com
Q: How long has C-buz been around?
A: The initial concept for C-buz was first sparked in early 2008, but laid dormant until it was reignited in late 2008. The site finally launched May 23, 2009 and was redesigned February 01, 2010.
Q: Who founded C-buz?
A: Jonathan Earley is the one who designed the whole site, the logo, and came up with the name C-buz, but he has had a TON of help and support from many people. Jon could not have done it by himself. To see more of Jon's work, visit his personal portfolio site, punchmybucket.com.
Q: Do you use a template or Wordpress theme for your site?
A: Nope. C-buz has been completely designed and coded from scratch. The design was created in Photoshop, the logo created in Illustrator, and site coded using the Modx CMS framework.
